MEET MEGAN!

Q: What drew you to yoga?

A: “Power Vinyasa Yoga” for the physical benefits of toned arms and firm abs.

Q: At what point did you know yoga was permanent part of your life?

A: For me, like I mentioned I showed up for the physical benefits, which I did get. I was able to gain strength, flexibility and learned how to float into some of those fun arm balances. However, that is not what hooked me, it was the discovery that yoga was every bit a mental practice as it was a physical practice. I learned you don’t master yoga it’s a life long journey for both the mental and physical practices.

Q: How has yoga helped you and when you started, did you realize that would be a benefit?

A: Yoga has taught me the meaning of living in the present. It is training yourself to literally be in the moment, not letting the mind wander to thoughts of what happened earlier in your day, the emails you still need to send or the other obligations that you have after class. Learning to “quiet the mind” as we say in yoga, is one of the biggest benefits I’ve taken away from my practice. No, I never realized this would be part of my yoga journey and a benefit of doing yoga. Until I started doing yoga, I never realized I needed to work on quieting my mind. Learning to be “present” definitely affects other areas of your life, not just in a yoga class.

Q: What is your favorite posture?

A: Running Man or in Sanskrit it’s Eka Pada Koundinyasana II.

Q: How often do you practice?

A: Changes weekly, but I try to get 3-4 practices in a week.

Q: What is your least favorite posture?

A: Camel Pose or in Sanskrit Ustrasana.

Q: What tip can you share for those starting out?

A: Be patient! Each time you show up to your mat, you’ll learn/discover something new. Try different teachers and styles of classes because again you learn something new each time.

Q: What tip can you share for those growing their practice?

A: Go to workshops! Especially ones that focus on a pose. For me workshops are where I discovered the helpful tips that really made my practice.

Q: What is your favorite color?

A: Aqua Blue.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Pasta with Tomato Basil Sauce.

Q: Besides yoga, what do you enjoy doing?

A: I love spending time with my family and friends. I like to travel too, so when you can combine family and friends with traveling it’s the best!

Q: What makes Body Bliss a unique place to teach/practice?

A: BodyBliss has an amazing collection of talented teachers to learn from with differing styles and backgrounds. I also love the sense of community at BodyBliss. Every class is welcoming and accepting.

Q: Favorite Recipe


A: Cannellini Bean Dip/Spread

Instructions:

1 can of cannellini beans

2 cloves garlic

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1/3 cup olive oil

¼ cup (loosely packed fresh Italian parsley (can also use fresh mint instead)

pinch of salt

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until the mixture is coarsely chopped. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

This recipe makes a great snack to dip veggies in or spread on toast.
