Instructor Spotlight: NICOLE MCWHIRTER

Meet Nicole...

Q: What drew you to yoga?

A: Honestly it looked like a fun way to work out. Little did I know it was SO MUCH MORE!

Q: At what point did you know yoga was a permanent part of your life?

A: When I first started and went to a studio class, I left feeling like a huge weight was lifted off of me. It became a way for me to unwind and let stuff go. Since then I've been hooked.

Q: How has yoga helped you and when you started, did you realize that would be a benefit?

A: Still to this day if I'm 'in my head" too much or just feeling overwhelmed, going to my mat and setting all the thoughts aside for that moment helps. Then after my practice, my mind is in a different place and the thoughts are not so overwhelming. When I first began I didn't expect myself to feel the mental/emotional benefits so much.

Q: What is your favorite posture?

A: Natarajasana (Dancer's Pose), or Virabhadra III ( Warrior III). They make you feel like your flying :)

Q: How often do you practice?

A: Daily. It could be as little as journaling or a couple postures to loosen a tight area in the body all the way to a power Vinyasa class.

Q: What is your least favorite posture?

A: Inversions. Even as an instructor my equilibrium still makes me dizzy going upside down. I still practice headstands and should stands but I have to slowly ease myself into them.

Q: What tip can you share for those starting out?

A: Just have fun with your practice! don't take yourself too seriously.

Q: What tip can you share for those growing their practice?

A: Don't be afraid to modify a posture. It's more beneficial to modify then to be misaligned.

Q: What is your favorite color?

A: Dark purple.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Mexican food.

Q: Can you share your favorite recipe with us?

A: Easy Tortilla soup 1. 1 jar of salsa Verde

1 Jar of regular tomato salsa

1 32 oz box of veggie stock

2 cans of black beans and 1 can of pinto beans

1 packet of Fajita seasoning

1 block of cream cheese ( can also substitute with vegan cream cheese)

combine all ingredients in a slow-cooker and cook on high for 3-4 hours. Top with lime juice and tortilla chips before serving.

Q: Besides yoga, what do you enjoy doing?

A: Photography.
